Culture Kept in Pages

Art has always remained one of the most interesting forms of expression and perception in our evolving world. When I travel, I always find myself hooked on the most peculiar painting hung on a wall, trying to figure out the story behind the masterpiece in front of me. It is through these preserved art works - transcripts, films, and paintings, that we are able to understand what it was like then and find the impact of history to our present lives now.

This is why I was very excited when Rustan's announced the re-launching of the coffee table books of our very own Filipino talent, Fernando Amorsolo - a tribute to the maestro consisting of all his paintings throughout his lifetime.

Last July 25th, 2017, two volumes of Amorsolo: Love & Passion, were presented to the press in Rustan's, Makati City. Guests were entertained by a Filipino music group who set the mood for a celebration, while enjoying the local Filipino food which was served. Host Johnny Litton soon welcomed all those who came for the occasion and recognized the presence of Mrs. Sylvia Amorsolo Lazo. At the end of the program, she signed all the books that were purchased at the launch as a form of authorization.

The first volume of the Amorsolo book is entitled "Portraits", where 309 Amorsolo paintings featuring some of the country's most renowned people (such as Manuel L. Quezon, Enrique Zobel Ayala, General Douglas MacArthur, etc.) are kept in 188 pages. In these pages, Ms. Sylvia recounts memories and stories she recalled behind each portrait. The second volume, "Landscapes and Other Works" highlights the perspective of the great artist through the eyes of a millenial. Though Amorsolo kept his traditional ideas intact, he also reflected his views on the modern world on some of his artworks.

Here is Ms. Sylvia signing a book for authentication :)

For those interested in buying your own copy of the Amorsolo: Love & Passion books, you may find these available at Rustan's Makati, Rustan's Gateway, and Rustan's Alabang. For every purchase, a portion of the proceeds will go to EPCALM (Erwin Piedad Cabanag Adult Leukemia Ministries), a non-profit organization, which reaches out to leukemia patients, as well as their families.
